Ryan’s checkered romantic career included a varied array of turtle doves before he finally settled down. But at this point, I believe there is no such lady in his life.
They did, but the “at this point” above referred to the time when these Bobbins.Horse strips are set (i.e., somewhere closer to 1998), so that’s still about a decade away.
Amy Chiltern – later Any Beckwith – Chiltern – reduced Ryan from a life of soiled vests, “tatied” socks, dead bats, cheap vino bought in 2litre bottles and a diet of leftovers.
He became a teacher – that most noble calling – a Moulder of Young Minds and a Clipper of Earholes, much admired by the scholars for his leather-elbowed jackets and hot, pink-haired tattooed wife.
That should say “rescued” – not “reduced”, though I imagine that if he hadn’t married Amy he would have died of junk food excess at the age of 32, massively obese and wearing a filthy tee-shirt and grubby underpants, so maybe “reduced” works, too.
There’s a chance that you might see one or two of the Bad Machinery characters again one day. But there won’t be any new Bad Machinery comics. It was time for me to move on. I make these Bobbins comics for my own amusement – they’re not for everyone, but I give them my all.
Ah, but zair are zee scullions, some of zem, zat lahk to be wooed. Fear not, noble Monsieur Dorado, Junior.
I did not see El Dorado looming until you mentioned it.
This strip has me wondering, though. Who is Ryan’s Special Girl? Yes, I know there were entire arcs on this topic.

Didn’t Ryan and Amy settle into domesticity? Or am I misremembering?
Ryan and Amy married some time between Scary-Go-Round and Bad Machinery. During Bad Machinery they also had little Walt, if I remember correctly.

You are correct, sir!
You misremember not, Dean.

That alternative future is explored in the 7th Bad Machinery case, remember? Crank up the time machine!
Gah! You force me to spend a morning meandering through the case of the forked road. I shall blame you if I lose my job, again.

I miss Bad Machinery. I always liked Lottie, Mildred, and Shauna better than Amy and Shelley. (Although I have a soft spot for Rachel and Tessa too.)
I still think my favorite Tackleford story of all is “TheCase of the Modern Men.”

What?
Was I right?
Am I eerily prescient, or have I already read the arc, and drink has rotted my brain?
We may never know . . .
Confirmed: HUGO HAS A DAD!
(I mean, obviously, SOMEONE must be his dad. Just that we never heard of him before…)
Yes we did. Hugo told Ryan about a flat his father has for rent.

And we were told about Dorado’s kinda abusive attitude towards his son (and immediate shine for Ryan) right after.
