Dorado frequently, perhaps intentionally, confuses “Sloop John B” with “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald”. No one corrects him because they’re all too frightened.
It IS very reminiscent of SGR. A menacing restaurant owner locking in patrons for reasons that aren’t clear but can’t be good… I feel like Fallon Young could kick in the door to rescue Ryan at any time.
Preemptively shipping Ljubjana/Dorado as she realizes he can feed her far better than Ryan can! Dorado seems like the kind of man who would be quite happy to trade Ryan’s date for his life.
The cost of the bread would normally be a problem, if weren’t massively dwarfed by bigger problems. It is a broken headlamp on a car that also happens to be in flames, going 90 mph with a stuck accelerator and no brakes.
This comic makes me feel like I’m riding a roller coaster in space, blindfolded. I don’t know if I’m going up or down, left or right. But one thing is for sure, I’m really scared and excited at the same time.
Dorado KNOWS that Ryan doesn’t have the pecuniary resources for paying for all of this – thus I worry that the payment he is after… is something else than money…
I don’t think we know enough about Dorado to know what depravity (or lack of) he might be capable of. He certainly has no respect for Hugo. I think either Dorado has something supernatural in mind for all of them, or he enjoys building the tension up to make a point.

Just want to say that today’s strip really through me for a loop.
Also: I like this comic a lot and have recommended it to my friends. And I have bought your non-free stuff before, too. Keep up the good work.
OK my current half-baked theory:
Dorado changed his tune when he saw that Ryan’s date was Ljubjana. He must know or have recognized something about her — she’s some sort of demonic spirit that he has targeted, either because he’s a demon-hunter or maybe one himself and she’s gone AWOL and he wants to capture her, or maybe consume her. That remark about “the Spider’s touch” could indicate he regards Ryan as having brought him something to feed on. I think Ljubjana might be the one in real danger, although Ryan may get caught in the back-wash.
Regarding spiders and their webs and their prey, I was reading about dragonflies/damsel flies and they mentioned that they had seen a damsel fly caught in a spider web, eating the spider that “caught” it.
No. You cannot lock people in. It’s illegal to have that ability in most countries advanced enough to have nice restaurants. Fire inspectors will shut you down. But I assumed he was locking everyone else out.
My new theory is that those pictures on the wall are not famous people, but are memorials to Dorado’s previous victims.
The tape of sad songs includes “Folsom Prison Blues”, which Dorado refers to as “I Shot A Man In Reno Just To Watch Him Die”.

The audience on the recording always cheers to that line. Well, they cheered once when it was recorded but I always notice it on playback.
“And towels, Hugo. Bring towels!
We’ll need them to mop up afterwards…in, eh, the kitchen.”
Bring out the Amontillado!
Wait, did any of the photos on the wall have the name Fortunato?
This storyline is rocketing quickly into a very classic SGR/Bobbins style of high energy chaos, and I’m delighted.

I dunno. She looks like she’s perfectly capable of handling Dorado.
Tho she also looks like she might wait and see what develops before she decides to do so.

Based on Hugo’s words, I don’t suppose the bread was free, after all.
Oh crikey, I’d forgotten about the breadsticks

But at least the fluffy dice are still ok…. right?
Rest assured, the fluffy dice are OK. They will always be OK. They are eternal, and will outlast the universe.
i’ve never been more anxious
No-one leaves without a wedding!
I’m sure Dorado has a shotgun under the counter.

Im loving this
Dorado KNOWS that Ryan doesn’t have the pecuniary resources for paying for all of this – thus I worry that the payment he is after… is something else than money…
My feeling as well. He wants some kind of favor.
I am very scared for our boy.
Well thank goodness Hugo is there though, Dorado wouldn’t murder his own…..right????

We do know Hugo, like Ryan, survives well into the future from this episode.
This has “lifetime indentured servitude” written in claret
It’s got so that I need to check Bobbins before I can get out of bed in the morning. The tension!
So I wonder what Ljubjana’s winking about. She does like danger.

I did not see that coming.
rest assured, we will have a crazy ride! Is double-l a………
VAMPIRE !? !?

Dorado had best beware.

I’m betting that he is going to make Ryan give Hugo dating advice. Teach him the spider’s touch.
And then it all ends with a building on fire and a gigantic sinkhole in the High Street.
